One of the best parts about a book is that it has a beginning, middle and an end. In between, cut up into lots of chapters, things happen. Depending on the genre, there could be murder, romance, intrigue…or in a truly great book – all of the above.
On today’s show I want to know about The Story of Your Life:
What genre is it? What chapter do you think you are in right now? Getting close or well past that second act? Reaching an arc; introducing some red herrings…feeling that it might need a few more secondary characters to move the plot along?
My guest is Interpol guitarist Daniel Kessler. The band got their start in New York back in 1997, and after a few lineup changes put out their first record in 2002 . But last year one of their core members, bassist Carlos Dengler, quit the band. When asked where he felt Interpol is right now, Kessler answered in an interview: I don't look at it as the ending. I don’t look at it as the beginning…I kind of look at it as the fourth chapter of Interpol.”
I'm kind of moving between a gothic novel, with darkness and suspense, and an Alice Munro slice of Canadiana realism.
