In a way, I'm going short with my Album of the Week, which is the new five song effort, Confidence Lodge, by Halifax's Jon McKiel. Already regarded as a gritty, hard-touring folk-rock champ, McKiel expands his repertoire considerably with Confidence Lodge, while providing just a glimpse at the musical turns he's taking. The Crazy Horse clip of "Monster of Mirimichi" seems just about right from Jon, but then it gives way to the BSS bounce of "Motion Pictures," which is an unexpected, euphoric jolt. All told, this EP is a moody aside, recorded at the same time as McKiel's next album Tonka Warcloud. The songs don't flow together sequentially, but as individual tracks, they're enigmatic and strong. Colour Vish impressed.
Are you a fan of Jon McKiel? Any plans to pick up his new record or catch him on tour any time soon?I have five CD copies of Confidence Lodge to give away to the first people on the blog to respond with correct
