Well, it happened. Arcade Fire won the Polaris Music Prize last night and now we have to talk about it together, don't we? The band is playing Pop Montreal this week and, as some of you know, I predicted they would win on yesterday's show and I'm pleased that I was correct. But, from what I understand, there were quite a few people disappointed by this outcome, I think primarily because it's a $30,000 cash prize, and it went to one of the biggest, most successful bands in the world. So, I think it's become an issue of justice. Even if the jury determined that Arcade Fire made the most impressively artistic record on the short list, should they have instead foisted the prize upon an act that could've used the dough more?
What'd you make of Arcade Fire winning the Polaris Music Prize on Monday night? Are you going to Pop Montreal? What other local musical or arts events and/or festivals are you most looking forward to over the next while?
