What do you put on your cereal? ‘Mill-k’ or ‘Melk’. Is your evening meal 'dinner' or 'supper'?
Since moving to Vancouver I’ve been corrected (almost monthly) on how to pronounce ‘milk’. I don’t know if it’s a Southern Ontario thing or the fact that I was raised by gypsy, either way, I drive people nuts.
What drives me crazy is the correct pronunciation of ‘Pho’. The vietnamese noodle soup should truly be called ‘Phuh’ but I’ve been saying it incorrectly for so long that the proper pronunciation sounds like noodle elitism. The worst part, I know I’m wrong. I also dislike the term ‘supper’, I’d rather go for ‘dinner’.
What food terms drive you nuts? What do you get called out on for mispronouncing?
Is it dinner or supper? Potay-toe or Po-tat-oe? Mill-k? Melk? Pah-sta? Paaa-sta?
