Today on Lanarama: Foodie Friday! When Did You Learn How to Cook?

I wish my first attempts at cooking involved the Star Wars Cookbook, sadly they did not. I am proud to say, however, that my nephews first food memories should involve Wookiee Cookies and Yoda Soda.

When did you learn how to cook?
What/ who was your teacher? Cookbook? Family member? Food TV?

Growing up, an old Hungarian retired cook who loved nothing more than to feed people (aka my Nana) lived next door. She didn’t really help jumpstart my interest in cooking, as there was food available at all times. All. Times.

I entered university with some inherited old pots and a bunch of recipe cards I had scribbled on while watching her cook (and not measure a thing).  I gained 15 pounds that fall, mostly because I lived off pizza and beer. My cooking skills at that time involved boiling water.

My obsession with the Food Network and Chapters cookbook bargain section helped me become the food nerd I am today. I also got a job, and stopped living off pizza. That helped too.
