Fans of John Tielli's work are devoted and loyal for a good reason. As a songwriter, the guy's a musical genius in so many ways and, although he's been playing actively, he hasn't released a new record in close to six years. Since retiring the moniker Clark the Band, Tielli has been operating a bit differently as Metal Kites. It's less of a prog-influenced post-punk rock band now, its aggression toned down for something more delicate and charmingly makeshift, but still as thoughtful and challenging as ever. The new Metal Kites record is called School of Unlearning, and here's a great song from it called "Castle." John Tielli for Prime Minister!
The Metal Kites celebrate the release of School of Learning with a show in the Main Hall at the Tranzac in Toronto this Thursday October 6. Openers include Gabe Levine and I Am Robot and Proud.
