Right now, chances are you’re streaming Radio 3 on your computer at work, at home, or maybe even on your phone. But how often do you stream music, instead of playing tracks from your own collection?
Do you believe you will ever embrace streaming as your full time musical experience?
Toronto firm, Research Solutions Group estimates 65 to 70 per cent of music is still sold as CDs, and 93 to 94 per cent of all movies are still sold or rented as DVDs. That said, the market is changing quickly, and subscription services are on the rise. Streaming sites and services are expanding, moving into the mobile world, and even figuring out how to work within Canada’s strict guidelines.
One of those sites is Rdio. The unlimited on demand social music service was founded by Janus Friis with Niklas Zennström, who are best known for founding both Skype and KaZaa. The company is one of the first ad-free music subscription services available in Canada. Coming up, we’ll talk to Rdio’s CEO Drew Larner.
