“Talking About Music is Like Dancing About Architecture."
This has always been one of my favourite quotes, though strangely, this is what I do most days. Sometimes I even write about it… stranger still.
We like to talk about art. Some might even say we need to talk about art. Painting, dance, sculpture, film, theatre, music – all of these art forms tell a story and we take things away that are unique to our own stories. Or at least that’s my take.
Maybe we don’t or shouldn’t talk about art so much; let it be what it is and try hard not to over think it.
On today’s show Vancouver is Awesome’s Christine McAvoy joins me to discuss an event I’m hosting tomorrow night: the Polaris Music Salon. Featured artist Devin Townsend. This is the third such even in Vancouver and features a band or artist talking about their album being considered for the annual Canadian music prize. No one performs. We just talk.
And you?
DO YOU LIKE TO TALK ABOUT MUSIC?
WHY?
HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE IN WORDS "POST-GRUNGE"?
Or whatever other genre you like. I’m always struggling with trying to get across “kick-ass rock”
