Pete here. Happy Sunday everyone. Leave me a comment below if you want to say hi today.
I was lucky enough to watch Kathleen Edwards perform an exclusive concert last night at the CBC in Toronto's Studio 211. The audience was packed with dedicated Kathleen Edwards fans (R3, R2 contest winners) and I snuck in at the back wearing a cleaner’s uniform and pretended to do some dusting just to see the show.
It was a magic night. Kathleen played tracks from her new album "Voyageur". It was her first time playing many of these songs live with her band since actually recording them in the studio. She was working out the kinks live on stage and after a few false starts and some awesome cussing from Kathleen the show got under way... and what a show it was.
The most pleasant surprise of the night was that Hannah Georgas has joined Kathleen’s band for the next little while and the two of them sing incredibly well together. Their voices mingle well whilst maintaining their own unique qualities.
New songs like “Pink Champaign”, “Moving to America” & “Change the Sheets” already feel familiar and they sat perfectly in her set next to classics like “Asking for Flowers” and “I Make the Dough, You Get the Glory”.
Sarah Harmer dropped by to sing a song (Boy oh boy can she sing). Afie Jurvanen AKA Bahamas did a goose bump inducing duet with Kathleen. They played "Snowbird" and it was truly beautiful. He's such a smooth dude, really calm and comfortable in front of the mic. He also had the best gags of the night. Kathleen and Hannah sang "September Gurls" by Big Star one of my favourite songs ever. What a night!
You'll be able to hear this Kathleen Edwards concert on Canada Live this Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 7pm ET on CBC Radio 2.
There will also be video from the show available at CBC Radio 2 on Tuesday the 17th of January to celebrate the release of Kathleen’s new album “Voyageur”.
Kathleen is also our X3 artist of the month here at CBC Radio 3.
