Rich Aucoin is an artist who really gets around. In 2007, Aucoin traveled across Canada on a bicycle and performed his show while raising money for kids with cancer; cutting off a chunk of his hair during each performance. Now, four years later, we caught up with Aucoin, who is back on the road with his latest album, We're All Dying To Live.
Best thing about touring?
Experiencing so many new things and playing for so many new people all the time and seeing friends on the road. (you said best 3 things right?)
Some crappy or creepy thing that has happened to you on the road?
While I was biking across Canada, a car followed me for a bit which was pretty obvious because we were both in the middle of nowhere and I was biking faster than it; only seeing a smoke lighting from its darkened interior every once in a while.
What different between traveling in Canada and the states?
Everything's closer in the states!
What band(s) are you into right now? Anyone you’ve seen lately who’s rocked your world?
Retro Stefson, Of Monsters and Men, Writers' Strike, and Sandman Viper Command are the last bands I've seen and they've all rocked my world.
Most interesting person you have met on the road?
Maybe Adam Marrett... he's a genuine cowboy. He brought a bunch of machetes to The Hangout festival I played in Alabama and was "unofficially" giving people machete throwing lessons.
We love stories – embarrassing, scary, good natured we want to hear one?
I got to go on stage with The Flaming Lips in the aforementioned festival. The festival is on a beach so everyone is in their bathing suits and there's like 40k people. It was the best festival ever. We got to hang with Wayne Coyne after the show too which ruled as he is by far the most down to earth and awesome front-man celebrity on the planet.
