What is it about the Hitler/Downfall meme that is both so great and so terrible at the same time? The problem, I think, is that these videos turn one of history's biggest monsters into an everyman whose frustrated tantrums are something we can all appreciate. But even though it's wrong we find ourselves in agreement with Hitler, that’s probably why they work, too. They make us look ridiculous for getting so angry about things that are ultimately “First World” problems.
It's been a while since a new one has come out, and the latest features Hitler railing against the Museum of Modern Art's two-ticket limit for its upcoming Kraftwerk series, that has left thousands of frustrated fans in its wake. Naturally, Hitler is a huge fan of Kraftwerk, and the thought of "a sea of snivelling man-children taking Instagram photos" is just too much for him to bear. What’s worse, the real fans will be forced to sip $7 Stellas and stand behind tall hipsters, while the good spots are occupied by the press and bloggers, "a bunch of self-congratulatory sycophants,” who spout "meaningless platitudes."
As always, it's a sorry state of affairs if you find yourself in agreement with Hitler.
