I'm staying in Guelph for the Breakfast Club this week because my guest/fellow resident, Nathan Lawr, has suggested we meet at the Vienna Restaurant to discuss his amazing new MINOTAURS album, The Thing. We're also gonna play another exciting round of When I Think of ___, I Think of ___. And, because he's a swell fellow, Nathan has provided me with copies of The Thing to offer five of of you on the blog!
Nathan's a dear old pal of mine who's been playing music forever. A gifted drummer, he's recorded and/or toured with people like King Cobb Steelie, Royal City, Feist, Constantines, Elizabeth Powell, Jim Guthrie, Sea Snakes, Jenny Omnichord, FemBots, and Gentleman Reg among others. And as a decent hockey player, he's laced up for my old team, the Three Gut Feelings and, more recently some dudes from Sudbury. Nathan's also a renowned solo artist, who's made some excellent, indie-rock flavoured folk albums over the past decade. But with The Thing and his amazing new MINOTAURS band, he's exploring his passion for Afrobeat and the ass-shaking, empowering music that it's long associated with. It's a great feat and, as I say, I have five copies of it to offer you folks on the show today.
Are you a fan of Nathan Lawr and his new version of the MINOTAURS? Planning on seeing them live soon and/or picking up their new album, The Thing?
I have five CD copies to give away to the 9th, 27th, 43rd, 87th, and 118th people to post on this here blog.
If this ends up being you, please e-mail vish_khanna [at] cbcradio3.com with "Annika! Annika!" in the subject line, and your blog moniker and shipping address in your message.
