On today's National Hum show, I'm shining a modest little light on the Guelph Jazz Festival & Colloquium, which takes place in Guelph, ON this week. To sweeten the deal, I have two pairs of passes good for a trio of GJF shows this week, one featuring a solo performance by Kid Koala!
The GJF has kinda changed my life. I volunteered for the fest for close to five years after having my mind cracked open by the improvised and experimental musicians it showcases. From the evening concerts, always surprising, daytime music workshops, and the provocative colloquium discussion, the GJF is rightfully one of the world's more renowned events and it just won the fancy schmancy 2010 Premier's Award for Excellence in the Arts. This year's edition sounds very exciting, particularly because of the all-night Nuit Blanche festivities. I dunno if I can stay up for 24 hours straight, but I'm gonna try!
I have two pairs of passes, good for a trio of shows, to give away during today's program. The performances are: Tasa with Mark Feldman (Friday), Chicago Underground Duo (Saturday), and Kid Koala (Saturday) and the first two bloggers to answer my on-air questions, win! That could be you! Or you could win on behalf of a friend who lives closer to Guelph! There you go. If this ends up being you, please e-mail vish_khanna [at] cbcradio3.com with "White Night, White Heat" in the subject line, and your blog moniker in your message.
What local musical events and/or festivals are you most looking forward to over the next while?
