Over an almost fifteen year career, Toronto (by way of England and Vancouver) songwriter John Southworth has established himself as one of the most singular voices in Canadian music. He's a little more skewed than your Ron Sexsmith, a little less radio friendly than your Jim Cuddy, and maybe just a touch less idiosyncratic than your Rich Aucoins or Patrick Watsons, but his name belongs in every discussion about great Canadian songwriters.
"So Glad It's Finally Spring" belongs to that rich tradition of songs about, well, being glad that it's finally spring. "Here Comes The Sun" is the most famous of these, but Southworth's deceptively tune is a solid entry into the field. It rides easy on a lazy beat and unfussy instrumentation, and it feels great in the same way a sunny day does after months of winter.
