The desert is good for a lot of things: sand, riding a horse with no name, Burning Man — but what it’s not usually known for is providing electricity for electric guitars.
If you are a lover of music videos, you will be forgiven for not knowing this fact. Ever since bands have been setting songs to videos, they have been drawn to vast expanses of desert landscape. But while these videos shoots are big on style and setting, they are not so big on showing us how these musicians play their guitar solos without amps. I guess there must be something about the dry air, because it sure seems addictive.
The most epic example of this desert conundrum is Slash’s in Guns' N Roses' “November Rain.” Legs wide apart, shirtless under his leather jacket, Slash shreds his guitar, all alone in a dusty valley — without any equipment at all.
"November Rain" by Guns N' Roses
"I Disappear" by Metallica
"Vertigo" by U2
"Remind Me" by Brad Paisley with Carrie Underwood
"Blaze of Glory" by Jon Bon Jovi (Okay, he's playing an acoustic guitar but that solo sure sounds electric.)
