Earlier today the wife and daughter of Band drummer Levon Helm posted a note to the Band’s website, saying that Helm is in the “final stages” of his battle with cancer. The note went on to ask that fans send “prayers and love to him as he makes his way through this part of his journey.” To view the post, click here.
According to CBCNews.ca, Helm was diagnosed with throat cancer in 1998 and this reduced his voice to a whisper, though he continued to sing on albums and put on concerts.
Helm is best known for his time with the Band, where he lent his drumming and vocals to songs like “The Weight” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.”
