Dick Clark, host of American Bandstand, dies at age of 82

American broadcaster Dick Clark has died at the age of 82, according to his agent.

Best known for his pop music show American Bandstand, which he produced and hosted, Clark was responsible for many productions over the years, including the popular end-of-year telecast Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve.

The news of Clark's death was confirmed by his agent Paul Shefrin, who said the man nicknamed "America's Oldest Teenager" died of a "massive heart attack."

The original American Bandstand, which Clark produced and hosted, ran on ABC from 1957 to 1987. The influential program provided early television appearances for a wide array of musical stars including Madonna, Buddy Holly and The Jackson Five. 

His company, Dick Clark Productions, produces annual music events including the American Music Awards and the Academy of Country Music Awards.
