Despite the name American Bandstand, the show that Dick Clark created featured many performances by Canadians. Another interesting quality about the show was that Clark would take the time after bands performed to interview them. These were comfortable yet to-the-point exchanges that exposed Clark’s personal relationship with many of the bands, as well as his genuine curiosity and the solid interviewing skills he picked up in his radio days.
The Dick Clark Productions YouTube page is a treasure trove of the man’s entire career, with over 200 interviews in the American Bandstand section alone. As tribute to his support of the Canadian music industry, we thought we’d pluck out five interviews from American Bandstand that he conducted with Canadians.
