Here is our song of the day, recorded on Feb. 19 at the gala concert marking the 30th anniversary of Toronto’s Aldeburgh Connection. Artistic directors Bruce Ubukata and Stephen Ralls gathered a stellar lineup of Canadian vocal talent at Koerner Hall for a varied program of art song repertoire.
In today’s video excerpt, bass-baritone Giles Tomkins performs a folk-inspired song by Peter Warlock, an early 20th-century composer with a knack for writing obscene limericks and an interest in the occult.
Here, Tomkins introduces Yarmouth Fair (neither obscene nor eerie), which he performs with Ralls at the piano.
