One of the most delicate ecosystems in North America is the Mississippi River delta. It is a diverse region rich in heritage, economic activity and environmental beauty. Music is one of the most vibrant contributions of the Mississippi River delta to modern culture.

Sugar cane burning, Hurricane Katrina, refineries and gulf oil spills have challenged the stability of an already precarious part of the southern United States. When the challenges start to pile up, the voices star to rise with them. One of those voices comes from Louisiana native Tab Benoit, who has spearheaded a project called Voice of the Wetlands.

Voice of the Wetlands brings together some of the most influential and intrinsic names in Louisiana music: the Neville Brothers, Dr. John, Johnny Sansone, Anders Osborne, Johnny Vidacovich and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux. Together their goal is to raise awareness of the growing concerns of the Mississippi wetlands.

Beniot has first-hand experience observing the decline of the ecosystem that is such a vibrant part of his heritage. He speaks as vehemently about the land and waterway as his guitar speaks about the blues.

Voice of the Wetlands has released two discs to date. Its self-titled disc came out in 2005 and Box of Pictures was released in 2011.
