Measuring success in the music world is pretty easy: the number of views on your video. Last check of Carly Rae Jepsen’s infectious pop confection “Call Me Maybe” said she had nearly 30 million hits.
That number is three million short of Justin Bieber’s video, covering the song with pals that was released this past February (Bieber recently signed Jepson to his new label Schoolboy Records). But then, another pop singer covering your song is maybe just a more important measurement of your success.
If that’s true (and I’m saying it, so …) then finding out Katy Perry and her pool-side friends are shooting a video of their own “Call Me Maybe” cover is sending this song and the Mission, B.C., artist well into the stratosphere.
Now if Jepsen could just get Hologram Tupac to get something new going. We’ll wait on that.
