I don’t think I have to worry about this trend, if it’s even really a trend; more of a thing that has always happened but every once in a while really gets on your radar.
And this that I speak of is the garage session. Bands, singers, just plain ol folks getting together to have a good time, make music and then put out a record.
Last year Daniel Romano, Fred Squire and Julie Doiron spent a few summer days in Sackville, New Brunswick in Fre’d garage recording songs and the project Daniel, Fred & Julie was born. Folk tinged and lovely, the songs are a testament to what can happen when like-minded people come together to create.
On today’s show, I re-create that coming together, only instead of a garage, it’s a studio and instead of being three amazingly-talented musicians – I’m in on the mix.
Still, if you ever wondered what the whole thing would have sounded like without songs and music – this is pretty close.
