Shall I compare thee to a radio show?
Though art more timely and Canadian…
I realize I am not the Bard of CBC Radio 3, but I thought it would be fitting to celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday by sharing some of your favourite lyrics that could also be poems.
This morning Geoff Turner, my colleague here at CBC Radio 1’s morning show The Early Edition headed out into the streets to see if people could tell the difference between Shakespeare and an Iron Maiden lyric. Wow, people sure don’t know their literature! Then again, Iron Maiden's The Trooper is pretty good:
And as I lay there gazing at the sky
My body's numb and my throat is dry
And as I lay forgotten and alone
Without a tear I draw my parting groan
WHAT LYRICS DO YOU THINK ARE WORTHY TO BE COMPARED TO BILL'S WORK?
