This week we’re highlighting a song for each day of the week – songs written about the Mondays to Sundays.
A day marks a spin of the earth. Twenty-four little hours, but each day of the week carries its own strong associations. For those living for the weekend, Wednesday is best known as hump day.
Named for the Germanic god Woden, but strongly associated in several languages with the planet Mercury, Wednesday is known as the day of woe in the nursery rhyme on the days of the week called “Monday’s Child."
That’s certainly the case with the Simon & Garfunkel song “Wednesday Morning 3 A.M.,” a story so lovely in song; so sad in verse.
