CBC’s Live Right Now healthy-living campaign is in full swing on all of our platforms, so it seemed the perfect time for a workout playlist. Edmundston, N.B., was recently crowned the Live Right Now Capital of Canada. The good citizens of this largely francophone community were happy to jump right in and share the tunes they use to kick-start their bodies into action. See if you can keep pace!

1. “Baila Morena,” Zucchero

Mychèle Poitras: “Why do I like it? How can you not want to dance when you hear this song? On Saturday mornings, when I need to start the housework, I pretty much always put this song on. It has a great beat, and a lot of heat! It's also the first song I put on when I hop on my exercise bike. In fact, I never leave home without it!”

2. “Stronger,” Kelly Clarkson

Sylvie Pelletier: “In life, a lot of things are thrown at you and sometimes you don’t know how to deal with it. In my case, this song keeps me focused on getting stronger. In the song it says ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger/ stand a little taller/ doesn’t mean I’m lonely when I’m alone./ What doesn’t kill you makes a fighter/ footsteps even lighter.’ I am dealing with issues in my personal life and these words give me a boost to not let my arms down and be sorry for myself, I need to be strong, no matter what. I spin to this song twice a week and it’s my toughest routine, my spinning buddies know what’s coming up when this song starts and they too find it to be my toughest routine. I close my eyes, sing along out loud and it feels great and I definitely feel ‘Stronger.’”

3. “When We Stand Together,” Nickelback

John Tobin: “Because of the title and lyrics that describe exactly what can be done when everyone works as a whole, anything can be accomplished. Just as Edmundston did to rally up and win the Live Right Now contest. Plus one of the best Canadian rock group! Yeah! ”

 4. “It Snowed,” Meaghan Smith

Christine Morneault: “I had too many to chose from. I went with this one 'cause I still have the memory. If you must go outside to shovel out the snow in your driveway, this is the song to motivate you while you get the chore done! I have this song in my iPhone, I stick the phone in my jacket pocket just for the fun of listening to it outside by myself, and maybe to get a smile from the neighbours, too!”

5. “Wolf,” Danyka Nadeau

Elaine Albert: “I chose ‘Wolf’ because of its good beat. When I run and this song starts, it always gives me a boost to go faster. Not only does it have a good beat, but the lyrics and music for this song were written by a young talented girl from Edmundston who won a Much Music Video Award last year, yup she was at the same MMVAs as Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber! She is to me a great source of inspiration, each kid should have half of her motivation, they would go far in life!”

6. “Party Rock Anthem,” LMFAO

Brigitte Martin: “It brings out all the energy to go through any workout. An essential to every dance class.”

7. “The Great Divine" & "All There Is,” The Lonesome Line

Cindy Sirois: “Two great songs. For the inspiration they provide by telling us to keep pushing even though times are rough. From a young group of kids from our hometown (Edmundston) that is redefining modern music.”

8. “Fallen,” Volbeat

Jonathan Caouette: “For the awesome workout-able beat, five minutes of pure hard rock!”

9. “On the Floor,” Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull

Julie Morin: “I like the beat of this dance song. By following the beat, you have no choice but to push harder! It gets my pulse racing! I also find it more fun to exercise when I listen to good dance songs, and it also makes me work out for longer periods of time because I just love the music on my iPod!”

10. “Beautiful Day,” U2

Michel Hédou: “The beat of this song gives me momentum during long distance walk. The words ‘Beautiful Day’ spin in my head and remind me that no matter what’s going on, life is great!”
