For the past few weeks on In Concert, the quiz has celebrated places that have been immortalized in music. Since there is so much great Germanic music on the program this Sunday, this week our quiz will take us to the German-speaking countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Yes, Liechtenstein.

OK, perhaps not Liechtenstein.

Whether you are a fan of U2 or not, it's undeniable that their 1991 album Achtung Baby captured a very particular zeitgeist. The band spent time in Berlin while making the album, in between the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany.

I remember when I walked through Berlin's Zoologischer Garten station for the first time, knowing the music that had been inspired by the place made me think of that period in history -- and granted me a deeper appreciation of where I was.

People have been composing music about Germanic locales for a lot longer than U2 has been around. This week, all three of our examples were composed before 1900:

PLAYYour challenge is to identify the Teutonic travel destinations named in the titles of three musical examples (separated by the sound of a bell.)

Don't answer here on the blog. Email your answers to inconcert@cbc.ca. Three correct entrants will win a recently released classical CD.

Last week's quiz celebrated US travel destinations that have been immortalized in music. The correct answers were Vermont, the Grand Canyon and Chicago. The winners are James Malebranche of Ste-Adele, QC; Patricia Rahal of St. John's, NL; and Brian Gilbertson of Plympton, NS.
