Hello everybody, and a special hello to those of you listening on our new CBC Music Android app.
Well, apparently researchers have found that popular music has become more "sad-sounding" over the past four decades. More minor keys, slower beats, and negative lyrics. In fact, the amount of sad songs on the charts has doubled since the mid-sixties.
The theory is that sugary pop music isn't challenging enough for songwriters or audiences, so music has developed an edge over time.
And today's poll question is this:
DO YOU PREFER SADDER MUSIC?
Have your tastes gotten moodier over time? Do you need that edge in your music? What defines sad music for you? Do you agree that music has gotten sadder?
