For 21 years, Saturday Night Blues has been honouring Canadian artists for their life-long contribution to the blues. At the time it was created, the Great Canadian Blues Award was the only official recognition for Canadian blues artists. This award pre-dates the blues Juno, the Maple Blues Awards, and many other regional awards.
The GCBA winner has always been chosen by the listeners to Saturday Night Blues, but the new CBC Music blues blog site gives even more music fans the opportunity to take part.
Previous winners of the award are no longer eligible, so take a minute and peruse the list:
Dan Aykroyd, Ken Hamm, Jack de Keyzer, Jeff Healey, Harry Manx, Georgette Fry, Jim Byrnes, David Gogo, Colin Linden, Rita Chiarelli, Dutch Mason, Richard Newell (King Biscuit Boy), David Wilcox, Donnie Walsh (Downchild Blues Band), Colin James, Long John Baldry, Amos Garrett, Big Dave McLean, Matt Minglewood, Sue Foley.
Voting closes at midnight, June 14, 2012. We will announce this year's award winner on the June 16th edition of Saturday Night Blues. We will also draw 10 names from all who voted for your chance to win an SNB prize package, so remember to enter your contact information.
