Chris Cagle is about to release his fifth studio album. The disc, Back in the Saddle, is marked for a June 26, 2012, release on the Bigger Picture Group label.

Between 2000 and 2008, Cagle had two number one albums and 12 charted hits. He also discovered that he was becoming burned out by the success. “I was tired of who I was in this business,” Cagle says. “I had become somebody who I didn’t want to be.”

Cagle decided to pull up stakes and move to the country. He settled in Marietta, Okla. and set about building his own ranch, with his own hands. He also met his wife, Kay and together they started a family. Now, Cagle has his creative energy recharged and he’s set to come back to music, with a new attitude. “I’m happy. You’re gonna hear the smile through the radio.” Cagle says in his bio. “For the first time since April 2001, I am truly happy to do it; I have a new lease on all of it.”

Cagle released his first single from Back in the Saddle last fall; “Got My Country On” reached the top 15 on the Billboard country charts. The album features 11 songs that should satisfy Cagleheads – the nickname for Cagle’s fans – and attract new ones as well. Yes, there are songs about women and whisky, but Cagle comes at his favourite topics from a new angle. For example, “Let There Be Cowgirls” is a song he wrote about women but this time, it’s inspired by his wife.

“The worst days we’ve had together are better than the best I’ve had with other people,” Cagle says about Kay, his wife. Cagle also wrote a nod to his three daughters on Back in the Saddle, with the song “Dance Baby Dance.”

Cagle describes his music as “redneck rock ‘n roll,” and you can hear the influences of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Charlie Daniels in his sound – like in this song called “I’ll Grow my Own.”

Cagle doesn’t just sing songs about cowboys, he lives the cowboy lifestyle. When he’s not tending to the chickens and the garden on his ranch, Cagle can be found raising and training cutting horses.  Nowadays, if you ask Cagle what’s important to him, he’s likely to answer:  “Family, ranch, music. That’s it.”
