It’s day two of putting the violin into the spotlight with Violinfest on Tempo! You’ve been hearing your favourite violin music from world-renowned performers past and present.
Among today’s violinists, you’ll hear from two talented musicians at very different stages in their careers. We thought you’d like to hear more from them about the music they are playing.
“The most perfect piece for violin and orchestra”
Just after 10:00 a.m. (10:30 NT) you’ll hear German-born violinist Viviane Hagner in performance of Mendelssohn’s violin concerto. She tells CBC Music that the concerto is the perfect combination of virtuosity and lyricism, in the perfect register of the violin.
“The most precious thing I have is the sound of this violin”
Kerson Leong is a young Ottawa violinist whom you’ll get to hear around 11:30 a.m. (12:00 NT) on Tempo. At just age 15, he’s established himself as a promising young artist after winning first-prize in the junior category of the prestigious Menuhin Competition. It’s clear from his playing that Leong loves the sound of his 1705 Guarnerius violin, and here he explains why.
You can hear more from Kerson Leong on Concerts on Demand.
