The Hillside Festival is without a doubt my all-time favourite summer music festival, no doubt because it is the one I have spent the most time at. I spent several years recording concerts for CBC at the Hillside Festival.
My past highlights from the Hillside Festival are the year Apostle of Hustle took the Island Stage by storm. I don't think I have ever seen a tighter band. Then there was the year Arcade Fire made their triumphant return to Hillside. They had just performed in Chicago at Lollapalooza and when they took to the stage at Hillside it was total mayhem. The band performed a stunning main stage closing set and at the end of the show proceeded to walk out in to the crowd and like pied pipers the Arcade Fire returned the crowd to their tents for the night. It was stunning.
But let's not let past glory overshadow this year's festival. Like always, it is going to be awesome.
Over the past year Up Close has had the pleasure of having many of the Hillside 2012 bands perform for us in the Drive Studio. Today we shed the spotlight on three of those bands.
First up we have Elliott Brood. The Brood perform on the main stage at the Hillside Festival, Saturday night at 8:15 p.m.
The Great Lake Swimmers take the Hillside main stage on Sunday at 8:30.
And last but not least my all-time favourite band playing my all-time favourite festival. Zeus will rock the Island Stage Saturday night at 8:45 p.m.
