Red Bull Music Academy has just released the names of the 62 participants from 29 countries who have been selected to attend the 2012 academy in New York City this fall, and among them are three Canadians. The participants were painstakingly selected from a pool of over 4,000 candidates who submitted applications to attend this year's academy, a travelling workshop series/festival designed to develop the potential of attendees.

Canada will be represented at this year's academy by Ben Globerman, a.k.a. Cabaal, from Ottawa, Ont.; Brad Weber, a.k.a. Pick a Piper, from Toronto, Ont.; and Alan Brinsmead, a.k.a. Sinjin Hawke, from Montreal, Que.

CBC Electronic has a little primer for you on the three Canadian participants.

Brad Weber, a.k.a. Pick a Piper: Longtime live drummer for indie/electronic artist Dan Snaith, Weber is a lover of the more psychedelic side of the groove. He's had the chance to play and tour with some of the world's most celebrated musicians.

Ben Globerman, a.k.a. Cabaal: Coaxing the soul out of analog synths is Globerman's specialty, well that and making the kind of music designed "to soundtrack people lying in a field in the sunshine, floating."

Alan Brinsmead, a.k.a. Sinjin Hawke: This Barcelona-residing Montrealer made a name for himself with mixes for Rinse FM and URB, winning fans from aspiring DJs, festival headliners and soulful ravers alike.

This year's academy runs Sept. 30 through Nov. 2.
