Hans Zimmer, the composer of the original score for The Dark Knight Rises, has composed and recorded a piece of choral music, Aurora, dedicated to the victims of the recent mass killing in Colorado.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Zimmer wrote, "Aurora is dedicated to those who lost their lives and were affected by the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado. I recorded this song in London in the days following the tragedy as a heartfelt tribute to the victims and their families."
The music is available for download for the cost of a donation, ranging from 10 cents to $2,500, and 100 per cent of the proceeds will go to the Aurora Victim Relief organization.
One iTunes user, Parker Yancey, commented, "Amazing. Reminds me of [Eric Whitacre's] Lux Aurumque." Choral music fans will also note the influence of composers Samuel Barber and Henryk Gorecki.
Zimmer won an Academy Award for best original score for The Lion King, having been previously nominated in the same category for his music in Rain Man and Driving Miss Daisy.
