While at the Grammy Museum’s Heavy Metal Exhibit I took a good look at Slipknot’s masks on display. I couldn’t help but think of how gross it must feel to have your face inside one of those for an entire 90 minute rock show, but they wear them every time they’re on stage. It would be odd to see them perform without them. The masks are part of the act, they are part of who that band is.
From the iconic looks of Alice Cooper and KISS to Polaris short listers Yamataka//Sonic Titan, there are many artists who wear makeup or masks on stage. But who does it best? Let’s compile a list for CBC Music, shall we?
