Singer-songwriter Bill Doss of the Olivia Tremor Control and the Elephant 6 collective has died at the age of 43. The cause of death is unknown. A statement on the Olivia Tremor Control website reads, "We are devastated by the loss of our brother Bill Doss. We are at a loss for words."
The Elephant 6 collective is a group of musical collaborators founded by Doss, Jeff Mangum, Robert Schneider and Will Cullen Hart in the early 1990s. The collective spawned a number of influential indie bands, including the Olivia Tremor Control, Neutral Milk Hotel, Beulah, Elf Power, the Apples in Stereo and Of Montreal. Here is a playlist of five influential songs from the Elephant 6 collective.
1. "Jumping Fences" by the Olivia Tremor Control.
2. "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" by Neutral Milk Hotel.
3. "Strawberryfire" by the Apples in Stereo.
4. "Gene Autry" by Beulah.
5. "Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse" by Of Montreal.
