Real Cool Time: Bruce Parry Sunday

Due to an overwhelming appreciation of my documentary hunting skills, I've decided to do another documentary recommendation show.

New to my world of audio-visual knowledge is the wonderful Bruce Parry. I found his BBC series Tribe a few days ago and am hooked. So far I've watched him puke his guts out after taking Iboga (a hallucinogenic drug), almost become prey to cannibal hunters and see his foot nearly rot off while trekking through the Amazon. This guy is hard core and I'm completely obsessed.

As for music doc's, well, where do I start?? Roxy Music, Mission of Burma and Blondie all get their time to shine this week. Here's a list, because that's what I do best:

1. Bruce Parry: Tribe

Each episode features Bruce visiting a remote tribe in Africa, South America or Asia and interacting with the tribe as a member for an entire month. Being a former British Royal Marine, this guy knows a thing or two about survival and bein' tough. It pays off. This series is stunning. Can-not-stop-watching.

2. Mission of Burma

Bostonian post punk band Mission of Burma have been cited as a great influence by bands like Nirvana, REM, Sonic Youth, you know, lots of important people or whatever... This doc follows them during their reunion in 2002, and also features a ton of older live footage.

3. Blondie: One Way Or Another (BBC)

BLONDIE DOI!

4. The Rolling Stones: C--ksucker Blues

This documentary was banned for its content (sex, drugs and rock n roll). Filmed by photographer Robert Frank during the Stones' 1972 US tour, it never saw the light of day, of course until the internet got its greasy little hands on it.

5. The Roxy Music Story

"Now the party's over... I'm so tired..."

Glam, elegance and total innovation. Roxy Music are one of my favorite all time groups.

Now, my dear friends, any recommendations for me?
