Over the past few decades, visitors to Vancouver Aquarium in Stanley Park have stood by the facility's large outdoor pool and waved hello to Kavna the beluga, who died Monday at the age of 47. And the whale, tail up, often waved back.
Some, however, got the chance to get even closer to the whale. One such visitor was Raffi, the chart-topping children's entertainer who got to interact with Kavna several times over the years.
PLAYClick the play button at left to hear Raffi discuss how his meeting with Kavna in 1979 inspired his song "Baby Beluga," perhaps the most popular children's song ever written.
For more of the stories behind Raffi's songs, pick up his autobiography, The Life of a Children's Troubadour.
