Lanarama: a celebration of guilty pleasures and pop treasures

Did you happen to watch the closing ceremonies of the games yesterday? The pop culture parade included everyone from George Michael (did you scream “GEORGE MICHAEL!” in their living room? Just me?) to current teen heartthrobs One Direction to the legends we lost, Freddie Mercury and John Lennon. I’m happy that there were no holograms.

One of the most hyped returns to the stage was the Spice Girls, a group that, in my mind, is synonymous with guilty pleasures – which just happens to bring us to one of my favourite topics.

WHAT ARE YOUR GUILTY PLEASURES?
Afraid to put your iPod on shuffle in case _____ pops up?
Watch a specific reality show religiously (and alone)?

Instead of feeling guilty, are you completely open to sharing your love of Twilight and Britney Spears?

I’ve noticed in the past that often it is pop music that we are most guilty of. There are some great pop songs out there, nothing to be ashamed of, right? What are the things you stand behind, though they are often seen as guilty pleasures?

So many questions, folks. See, told you I love guilty pleasures (mine include the Spice Girls, Jon Secada and retro workout videos). Post your comments on the blog or tweet @CBCradio3.

Coming up, some great Canadian indie cover versions of pop gems!
