Polaris album stream of the week: F--ked Up's David Comes to Life

It's week six of our Polaris Music Prize listening party, and our featured short list album is F--ked Up's David Comes to Life. For those keeping track, it's the band's second album to make the Polaris short list. Their second studio album, The Chemestry Of Common Life, was awarded the Polaris Prize in 2009.

Set in late '70s England, David Comes to Life is an 18-song, four act punk rock opera centering on a romance between light bulb factory worker David Eliade and activist Veronica Boisson. The album features guest appearances by Jennifer Castle, Kurt Vile, and Madeline Follin of Cults. Since it was released last June, the record has been met with a ton of critical praise. Most notably, it was named the Best Album of 2011 by Spin this past December.

Discussing the concept album on CBC Radio 3's Breakfast Club, lead guitarist and songwriter Mike Haliechuk, told Radio 3's Vish Khanna:

"We really didn't want to challenge our audience, that's why [David Comes to Life] is so melodic. We wanted people to like it, not just think that they should like it, like our last records."

Reacting to news that David Comes To Life made the 2012 short list, vocalist Damien Abraham said "History has been unkind to the second-time nominees." Abraham, who co-hosted last year's gala, jokes that this year's awards may be bit more relaxing for him. "I actually get too sit back and enjoy it a little more, maybe meet Drake."

You can stream F--ked Up's short listed album in its entirety until August 22.
