Welcome back! Jay Ferguson here again, holding court while Lana takes 5. Any movie fans in the house? With the recent release of This Film Is Broken, Broken Social Scene have now been added to the long list of musicians who have made forays into feature film. So what better time to discuss one of my favourite topics... the rock film!
There is a cliche that actors just want to be musicians and musicians just want to be actors. Well, great!!! If not, we wouldn't have had A Hard Days Night, Rock 'N' Roll High School nor Labyrinth! On the other hand, we also wouldn't have had Clambake, Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (starring the Bee Gees, Peter Frampton... and George Burns) nor, umm, Labyrinth.
Egotistical vanity projects or valid artistic outlet?? I'd like to know what you think are the BEST & WORST rock films ever committed to the silver screen. Any memorable experiences seeing them at the local theatre or cineplex? Perhaps lining up in anticipation at the Penhorn Mall in 1986 to see Prince's Under The Cherry Moon the only weekend it played in Dartmouth, NS?... (oh wait, that was me.)
