Now that that Polaris madness is over, the Album of the Week gets back to its regular business by catching up on some amazing albums that have come out over the past couple of months. Today, I'm pleased to profile The Suburbs by Montreal's Arcade Fire. Unfolding as much like a profound play, as it does a thesis defense, this record subtly studies urban development from the perspectives of kids and adults (i.e. former kids!) who must grapple with what some city planner has given them. It speaks to the weird separation of downtown and suburbia in a unique way and the band has never sounded more dynamic, confident, and original. Really and truly, Arcade Fire have outdone themselves here and that's saying something!

Are you a fan of Arcade Fire? Are you planning on seeing them live any time soon or picking up a copy of The Suburbs?

I have five copies of this CD to give away to the first people on the blog to respond with correct answers to questions I'll ask on the air throughout today's show. If this ends up being you (once!), please e-mail vish_khanna [at] cbcradio3.com with "Mountains Beyond Mountains" in the subject line, and your blog moniker and shipping address in your message.

Old or new, Canadian or otherwise, what is YOUR album of the week?
