When news broke Tuesday of Avril Lavigne's engagement to Nickelback lead singer Chad Kroeger, it's safe to say the internet just freaked out. The tone of the early tweets was shock; most people didn't even know the pair was dating. But soon the mood shifted to making fun of the artists, their music, the newly coined "Chavril" and Canada itself. Even I couldn't resist.
As a matter of fact, if you do a Twitter search for #Chavril you'll be buried under a wall of snark. Nickelback has been a target for music snobs for over a decade, and Lavigne isn't the most critically acclaimed artist.
But they have fans. Tons of them. Together, Nickelback and Lavigne have sold over 80 million albums worldwide, and yet it's hard to find a genuinely positive tweet about the engagement. To quote Nickelback, "There's gotta be somebody."
We did some digging and found some. They include Nickelback's reaction, fans who think the couple are cute and excitement about Lavigne's upcoming album, on which she collaborates with Kroeger. Here are 10 snark-free Chavril tweets.
Okay, that last tweet may not have been so snark-free.
