On Radio 2 Weekend Morning, Molly Johnson eases you into your weekend with some great Canadian songs and stories about musicians and the people of Canada, from coast to coast to coast.
Here are some of the stories we're looking at this weekend.
Saturday August 25
Molly's got an incredible Peach Blueberry Cobbler she found in the Globe & Mail this week. You'll be able to get this one done before anybody else even wakes up today.
We Got the Funk
Rufus and Chaka Khan with their duo "Tell Me Something Good".
Check out a beautiful video from the Great Lake Swimmers. They've taken "The Great Exhale," and urbanized it by playing inside a derelict Lower Bay subway station in Toronto, Ontario.
Songs Your Kids Should Know
The Rolling Stones and a lesson in patience with "You Can't Always Get What You Want."
Sunday August 26
To fully understand Bruce Cockburn's legacy, or even the career of Murray McLachlan, you need to know about True North Records. Bernie Finkelstein established and ran the label, and now his autobiography, 'True North,' is out to read. This man is truly an icon and a heavyweight of Canadian music.
Colin Meloy, the lead singer of The Decemberists, has extended his skills beyond the stage. He tried his hand at authoring a young-adult novel in the past, and it became so successful that the sequel is on its way. 'Under Wildwood' will be the title, and it'll feature over 80 illustrations.
Hannah Georgas stopped by CBC studios to share some music from her upcoming album, 'Robotic". Check them out before this album explodes in October.
Sunday Soul Selection
Aretha Franklin with "I've Never Loved A Man (the Way I Love You)".
