The hardcore Montreal vinyl afficianados at Music is My Sanctuary are presenting the fifth in their series of 24 hour, vinyl only, broadcasts on Saturday, September 1st.
In this age of laptops and Traktor/Serrato, DJ's who've been at it long enough to own a pair of 12s and a wall of records, seem to light up at the prospect of trading in the macbook for their trusty crate. Well, at least I do, and it would seem as though I'm not the only one. While I was digging for anecdotes from the previous four events, Dj Lexis, organizer of the event, told me that the "really great surprise was the fun that every DJ we had as a guest had reconnecting with their own record collection and sharing their treasures. I think I must have gotten that same comment from 20 different DJ's."
The reach of the event has spanned the globe, with thousands of listeners tuning in from all over, another great surprise for Lexis. And for the upcoming edition, he's pretty excited that this time it'll be in a public location where people can come down and enjoy it in person as well.
Started as a reaction against Montreal's long, dark winters, Lexis describes 24 Hours of Vinyl as a "listening / sharing / discovering session and I always walk out of every edition on a musical high that is pretty hard to describe."
If you're lucky, you might get to check out 24 Hour of Vinyl in your neck of the woods, as it's something they're working on taking on the road, with plans to take the concept to Toronto and New York in the next few months, with Europe on the horizon for next year.
24 Hours of Vinyl's 5th Edition starts Saturday, Sept. 1st at 10pm, ET, and goes until Sunday, Sept. 2nd at 10pm, ET.
