In the first hour of this week’s Saturday Night Blues, Saskatchewan-based blues and roots guitarist Ken Hamm performs live acoustic blues in the SNB studio.
Hamm has been an award-winning finger-style and slide guitar player on the Canadian roots scene for more than 30 years. In 2010, he was the Saturday Night Blues Great Canadian Blues Award-winner.
In hour two, we revisit an interview from 2001with Johnny Otis, who died earlier this year. Otis was a bandleader, composer, minister, disc jockey, painter, author and chef. Among his major claims to fame was the discovery of a young singer named Etta James.
As well in hour two, we pay tribute to Etta James, who died in January, just a few days after Otis. Requests for James’s music and selections featuring both her and Otis are on the playlist for the evening.
