Jim Corcoran, host of CBC’s A Propos, is one of Quebec's best-loved songwriters and a gifted translator who has taken on some of the most surprising lyrics in French music. Over the past 25 years, he has translated more than 125 songs for listeners of CBC Radio One and Radio 2.

This week, we feature a song by Catherine Durand, who just released her fifth album, Les murs blancs du Nord (The white walls of the North).

Durand has been active on the francophone music scene for more than 15 years. She’s always been soft-spoken and her quiet folk style has made her one of Quebec’s most respected singer-songwriters. Her most recent album was inspired by her numerous trips to Iceland and features arrangements that are evocative of winter and wide open spaces.

ListenHear Corcoran’s translation of her song “Des cendres de nous” (“Our ashes”).
