I remember the first time I saw Ndidi Onukwulu live. She’s one of those performers who has a charismatic presence onstage that makes you stop whatever sotto voce chit-chat you are having with your neighbour and really listen.
Musically, Onukwulu combines jazz and blues, sometimes with hints of world music. Interesting, given she grew up in Burns Lake, B.C., which, as far as I know, is not a hotbed of any of the above. (Of course, she has also lived in Paris.)
Here are four fresh CBC exclusive videos from Onukwulu's performance at the 2012 Edmonton Jazz Festival so that you can get a taste of the Ndidi Onukwulu live experience yourself.
"Little Dream"
"Maybe the Last Time"
"Move Together"
"Old Heart"
