Not all band members are created equal. Some seek the spotlight, while others hide in the shadows. Many bands find a balance that works for them. For instance, U2's Bono and the Edge may outshine their bandmates with their larger-than-life personalities and cool names, but everybody knows drummer Larry Mullen Jr. and bassist Adam Clayton as the two guys who were smart enough to stay away from the Spider-Man musical.
In other bands, you may know the band members even if you never learned their names. For example, Gwen Stefani is easily the most famous member of No Doubt, but you can probably identify the bassist she used to date, the new wave guitarist and the naked drummer.
Still, in a lot of cases a band becomes huge and they still have two or three members who manage to stay way under the radar. And really, that's an enviable position. They get to enjoy all the perks of fame without the drawbacks. They sell out stadiums and never have to deal with the paparazzi.
