Flying Lotus is ubiquitous right now. The purveyor of jazz-influenced electronic bass music has been everywhere this last while, leaking audio from his just released LP Until The Quiet Comes months in advance, a special short film by Kahlil Joseph, a robotic video for the Putty Boy Strut track off the album, countless interviews and even a Boiler Room set with ?uestlove from the hip hop legends, The Roots co-spinning.
With all this publicity, there was a lot riding on the album which dropped last week and his live show which landed in Toronto on October 13th at the Danforth Music Hall. There was no need to worry. The album is fantastic and his performance was visually sumptuous, which you can tell from the photos above. The presentation of geometric shapes morphing and exploding into pixel shards even rivals Amon Tobin’s recent ISAM 2.0 tour in my estimation.
The music played was Flying Lotus’ eclectic mix, incorporating tracks from the new album and older cuts interspersed with surprise additions of songs by A$AP Rocky, J Dilla, The Beastie Boys, Frank Ocean and more.
Flying Lotus plays at Fortune in Vancouver on October 22. If there are any tickets left, I highly urge you to grab one. You’re in for a treat.
