Superstar rapper Drake finishes high school

He spent eight seasons at Degrassi Community School, but all of those interpersonal life lessons must not lead to diplomas, because former teen actor and hip-hop sensation Drake never graduated from high school — until this week.

According to the Grammy-nominated rapper, who attended Toronto's Forest Hill Collegiate and Vaughan Road Academy, he dropped out in 2001 when he was offered the Degrassi gig because his mother was ill and his family needed the money.

Then he got busy doing math of an entirely different kind: selling more than five million records, having 10 singles on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart at the same time and grossing $42 million on his latest tour alone.

But this summer, Drake hit the books with the help of a private tutor, and not only got what he needed to graduate — he scored 97 per cent on his final exam, and 88 per cent average in the course.

“One of the greatest feelings in my entire life,” the 25-year-old told his more than nine million Twitter followers. “As of tonight, I have graduated high school!”

So why did Drake feel the need to go from hip-hop to high school? Maybe all those Degrassi lessons did sink in after all — or perhaps he was inspired by fellow Canadian music heavyweight Justin Bieber, who just landed his diploma in July.
